Yom Hashoah Observances & Israeli Independence

The 26th Annual Holocaust Remembrance Service is taking place on Wednesday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. with featured speaker, Betty Knoop, survivor of Westerbork and Bergen Belsen concentration camp.

A community Yom Hashoah observance will be held on Wednesday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Avenue, Norwalk. Join with our community Rabbis and Cantors for this annual event.

The Federation for Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County and area congregations are sponsoring a community Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebration being coordinated by our Israeli emissaries for Thursday, May 9, 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Bennett Hall. The evening will feature a sing-along with Federation Israeli Emissaries, area cantors and music by Radio Klez. Lite Israel fare to follow. Open to the community, free of charge…bring the children for fun crafts.

The town of Fairfield will hold its Annual Holocaust Commemoration of Wednesday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield. The featured speaker will be Alan Moskin, who served in the United States Army during World War II and whose company participated in the liberation of Gunskirchen, a sub-camp of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria.

A community celebration of Israel’s Independence Day will be held on Thursday, May 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at 4200 Park Avenue, Suite 300, Bridgeport. It will feature a sing-along with the Federation for Jewish Philanthropy’s Young Israeli Emissaries and area cantors titled “Israel’s Music through the Decades”.
