Rabbi James Prosnit is retiring from Congregation B’nai Israel in June 2019. We are planning to send him off in style with many occasions to honor him, celebrate and learn together. Below is a list of the scheduled events providing opportunities for everyone to participate.
Friday, May 31, 2019 | 7:30 p.m. (please note the start time and arrive by 7:15 p.m.)
We have a very special Shabbat service honoring Rabbi Prosnit’s inspiring leadership of our congregation and community. Rabbi Evan Schultz and Rabbi Prosnit’s sons Jonathan, Ethan and Jacob will lead the service, and Rabbi Rick Jacobs, President of the Union for Reform Judaism will be the guest speaker. A festive Oneg Shabbat will immediately follow.
Saturday, June 1, 2019 | 8:00 a.m.
Shabbat morning service, breakfast and Torah study honoring Rabbi Prosnit.
Saturday, June 1, 2019 | 7:00 p.m.
Gala dinner celebrating and evening of tributes to Rabbi Prosnit. As part of our celebration, we are creating a commemorative Sefer Todah – a Book of Thanks. This journal will include tributes from congregants, friends, family and colleagues. It is our hope that you will take this opportunity to express your gratitude to Rabbi Prosnit in the Sefer Todah and at the same time support the many programs and services at Congregation B’nai Israel. You can participate in the Sefer Todah online by clicking here.

The temple goes to Citifield to root for one of his favorite teams. Join us for a night thanking Rabbi Prosnit as we cheer on his favorite team. We want to reserve enough seats for everyone who wants to watch the Mets win and enjoy the company of fellow congregants. Contact the temple office.
We hope you can join us at one or more of these events. Let’s send him off in B’nai Israel style.
