Join us for this next Rosh Chodesh gathering on February 13, which will honor the upcoming arrival of the Hebrew month of Adar, the month in which we celebrate Purim. The title and program for this session will be:

“The Megillah Monologues: Reading Esther and Vashti in the Age of #MeToo”

Some say that Queen Vashti was the first to resist sexual exploitation and stand up against “MeToo.” Others take note of Queen Esther’s seemingly forced sexual subjection in order to receive the king’s attention and save the Jewish people. If we could hear from Vashti and Esther directly, the two famous females in our Purim story, what would they say? What would the Purim story look like, from their perspectives? During this session, we will hear from Esther and Vashti directly, through a special monologue performance by Randye Kaye, who is a local actress, voice-over artist, radio host, singer and author – and, most importantly, a member of our B’nai Israel community! In this exclusive performance, Randye will take on the characters of Esther and Vashti and lead us into their Persian milieu. Using Esther and Vashti as our vantage point, we will then explore and wrestle with “MeToo” through the centuries, asking ourselves: how far have we come, and how far, still, do we have yet to go? Hoping you will join us for the important and powerful conversation.
