Rosh Chodesh

January 23, 2020 - 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This month we will celebrate the upcoming arrival of the Hebrew month of Sh’vat – the month in which we celebrate Tu B’shvat, the “New Year” of the trees. On Tu B’shvat, we recognize and acknowledge all the gifts that we reap from our natural world, and we contemplate how we can be better caretakers of the Earth. In honor of Tu B’shvat, we will learn about “Essential Oils,” a fascinating product of our natural world. Since Biblical times, essential oils have been used for a variety of health, dietary, cosmetic, spiritual and religious purposes.  Today, essential oils are still used among health and wellness practitioners to bring more peace, joy, clarity, wholeness and overall well-being to our everyday lives. Becky Vanech, who is a local expert in essential oils and works for the essential oils company called Young Living, will join us on 1/23 to teach us about the history and various usages of essential oils, including the references to essential oils in our Biblical texts. After her presentation, we will have an opportunity for our own hands-on exploration of a variety of oils and how they can enrich and enhance our lives. We hope you will be able to join us for this special evening! Whether you are a Rosh Chodesh “veteran,” or haven’t yet been to a gathering, all women from B’nai Israel are welcome to join. Please feel free to reach out to Rabbi Marion with any questions.
