Mitzvah Morning: Urban Roots Bridgeport – Community Gardens

September 20, 2015 - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join other B’nai Israel congregants for a morning of social action in the local community. This month we will be working outdoors!  We are partnering with Urban Roots Bridgeport/Green Village Initiative ( to help with their community garden on Charles Street in Bridgeport. Urban Roots Bridgeport manages 24 school gardens and 14 community gardens in the city of Bridgeport. Each garden has 1 bed dedicated for donation to local food pantries, to provide fresh produce to city residences. There will be a new garden built, later this year, at a site on Charles Street. Our help is needed to get the area in to a clean piece of land for the build, by removing old beds, clearing brush, etc. No skills needed! Just a desire to help, be outside, get (a little) dirty and have fun with fellow congregants!

We will meet in the temple lobby at 9:00 a.m. for a quick cup of coffee and a bagel, before heading out in to the community for our project around 9:20 a.m. (you can drive your own car and leave when you have to). Please contact Shari Nerreau or Susy Kamin with any questions. You can sign up here: or by contacting either Shari or Susy.  We hope to see you then!  This is an adult/teen project.
