MLK Day – Make it a day ON, not a day off!
The next Mitzvah Morning will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 16. We are joining with our community at the University of Bridgeport Day of Service. There are many activities to join alongside fellow congregants and members the Bridgeport community. Registration opened in late December. You can get details on the volunteer opportunities and register at www.bridgeport.edu. Or https://www.eventbrite.com/e/university-of-bridgeport-martin-luther-king-jr-day-of-service-tickets-29982502472.
We will be participating in the fleece blanket making activity so congregants of all ages are welcome to join (no sewing skills necessary). The blankets that we will be making are donated to the Community Closet at Life Bridge, the Center For Family Justice, Emergency Overflow Shelter at United Congregational Church and some are given to a professor who does Midnight Runs in NYC. Join fellow congregants and community members for a morning of service! All ages are welcome! To register for the blanket making, please sign up at this link by January 11th.
Opening ceremonies at 9:00 a.m. and service projects begin 9:30 a.m. and go to 12:30 p.m.
Mitzvah mornings usually take place on Sunday mornings during religious school hours. So far we have volunteered with the Green Village Initiative, helping improve a community garden in Bridgeport, as well as conducted a Thanksgiving food drive and volunteered at a local soup kitchen.
