College

The College Committee serves to remind students who are members of the congregation that even while they are away at school, they remain integral parts of our community. Several times a year we send students care packages including small gifts and letters from our rabbis to help them remain engaged with our congregation. Please send your child’s name and college mailing address to Lauren Tropp (LMTropp@aol.com) with the subject line “COLLEGE COMMITTEE” if you would like them included.

College Outreach We want to keep the college-age children of our members connected to synagogue life, even when they are away at school. They will receive our monthly Bulletin and gift packages throughout the year. Interested college students and high school seniors getting ready for college life can sign up to be part of the College Outreach Committee. Parents can also sign up their kids!

Campus Visits We invite current college students to be a campus host for any Congregation B’nai Israel high school students who may be visiting your school. A familiar face, you can also serve as a great source of insider information for anxious students and their families. If interested, just indicate on our online form.

Sign Up To stay connected to Congregation B’nai Israel while away at college or to reach out to you on your campus, please click here to fill out the form.

Scholarship Opportunities

B’nai Israel has a number of scholarships that are generously provided through current or former congregants.

Fields/Nussenfeld Scholarship Fund

Intended for college and graduate students, these grants are for undergraduate students enrolled in a Jewish Studies class, students attending a URJ college student program, or students enrolled in Jewish professional graduate programs. These scholarships are funded through a generous contribution of Colonel Edward and Mrs. Marcia Fields.

Jim Abraham Education Fund for Jewish Leadership

Funded initially by a generous donation from Jim Abraham, a past president of the congregation who remained actively involved in our synagogue’s lay leadership throughout his life, this scholarship is intended for young adults who demonstrate the potential to be future synagogue leaders and offsets the cost of their participation in educational programs and other opportunities.
